Pacifier Issues

My son is almost 5 months. He likes to have a paci when going to sleep. However, when it falls out he wakes up crying or wakes up shortly after crying for the paci. I'm up very frequently through out the night keeping the paci in his mouth. At what age do babies learn to pick up their paci? Has any one had this issue and how did you handle it?

Thanks! I actually rock him to sleep and we use white noise when he sleeps. He goes to sleep fine. But, he is waking up every hour or even sometimes every 20-30 minutes wanting his paci back in.

At five months old he should be holding some simple things like rattles and toys that he can grasp. Some pacifiers are also easy grab but he is still young. Maybe its not a pacifier he needs to go to sleep. Try rocking him, singing to him, playing a CD with quiet instrumental music on it to keep him in slumber.
