My daughter is six weeks old..she seems to want to suck and I agree with pacifiers (gave one to my son who took to it like a life force) and I love them...but she will not take one..she will only suck on it for a few seconds then she screws up her face and spits it out! I can't get her to take it..when she finds her fingers she sucks on them..she would rather suck on her bottle till she falls asleep also and we have tried many different ones but she won't seem to take them. is there anything we can do or you ladies could suggest or is she just one of those babies who won't take one? I wish she would she just cries for no reason sometimes like most babies do and would be so much easier if she would take a pacifier...any advice appreciated thank u.

She's just not going to take a pacifier most likely. You can try ones with different shaped nipples but, she might just prefer her fingers.

I tried to give my son a pacifier, but he didn't want to know either, so I didn't force the issue, and he was quite content to suck on a couple of fingers for a short while - and then didn't bother with them either.

If she's not interested - leave her to it. If she is content sucking her fingers - let her.

all my girls were differant. one took a pacifier one her fingers one a little of both and one nothing. i would not try to force the issue. she will find other ways to self soothe. i would be careful letting her suck a bottle until she falls asleep. the sucking reflex could cause her to keep sucking even after she stops swallowing and that can lead to drowning. and if there is nothing in the bottle she is sucking air and that can make gas terrible. good luck and God Bless!

She doesn't need a pacifier. If she is fine without it, why try to get her to take it?

Why must she take a pacifier? My son never took one from me, he sucked on his forearm. I guess I just don't see why she can't suck on her fingers ...
