I have the Mirena and I LOVE it. Yes, it was uncomfortable when they put it in, but it wasn't any worse than menstral cramps (in fact, cramps are worse...). It's made my periods only every other month, and they are lighter, but they also last longer (my periods used to be 4-5 days of very heave bleeding and now they're 10-14 days of very light spotty bleeding). I think it's all worth it though because I don't have to remember the stupid pill and I don't have to worry about anything.
Really, the ONLY drawbacks are 1: I can't use tampons (I have a tendancy to get blood clots so I can't use tampons becuase some blood might clot on the tampon and pull the IUD out on accident - this is a personal thinkg though and you'd have to talk to your doc about it) and 2: it's been VERY hard for me to lose weight. This is one of the side effects of Mirena, but in my opinion it's worth it to make sure we don't get pregnant :)

The mirena is an internal uterine device (iud) that the doctor puts in. It's good for up to 5 years and can actually decrease the length of your period or make it stop altogether. It's mildly uncomfortable when it's inserted but after that you shouldn't be able to feel it at all. Once you have the doctor remove it you're able to start trying to conceive almost immediately. I had one for 3 years when my husband and I started trying for our second, we had absolutely no problems conceiving and now have it again. My period or I should say monthly spotting lasts about a day and a half!
