Parents of Autistic Children?

hi...my son is 2 and he has been diagnosed with "developmental delays". he's on the spectrum, but they are reluctant to make an official diagnosis of autism because it's so early. he sees a speech therapist, an occupational therapist and a behavorial therapist. it's not easy, but it does help knowing someone else is going through the same thing.

it's so refreshing knowing i'm not alone. My husband and I have 3 children. Henery is 5, Lillian is almost 2 and Hannah is 10 weeks. Our son Henery was diagnosed with Autism about 6 months ago. He starts school next term and i'm a little worried. The school is great, he's got a wonderful teacher and has even made some friends during his school visits. My main worry is how to help him deal with the transition. Any advice?

Hi Larissa- I do not have an autistic child, but my friend (they live across the street) does. Hayden is his name andhe is three. I have a three year old also, they were born three weeks apart. They were very similar in there development until they turned one. Thats when the signs became increasingly noticable. He is at my house almost everyday. He is receiving therapy daily, and is changing slowly (a little everyday) The cutest thing is my three year old dosn't notice anything is different with him, and to her he is her best friend. She actually interpets what he wants for all of us. I also have three children. I would love to hear your story.

i also have three children, twins Megan and Caitlin who are three years old and Ellie who is twenty months. Megan and Caitlin have recently been diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder so as well as dealing with that not exactly unexpected bombshell I'm also applying for the disability allowance and waiting to find out if they are going to get in to a special needs nursery.
