My husband and I are having a hard time making a decision. Our son's oncologist is comfortable waiting through a round or 2 of chemo to see how eating goes before putting in a PEG tube, but they said most families do it before chemo starts because it heals better/faster. Our nurse suggested that since yet another surgery is our main reason for not wanting to get the PEG, we look into a laparoscopically placed G-tube. Does anyone know the specific differences regarding placement? The idea of my son having another surgery makes me want to vomit. I am so over this whole experience. Anyone have experience with a G-tube? What was your child's experience during a post-surgery? I'm very concerned about putting him through this, but worried we won't get through maintenance chemo without supplemental feeding. He's eating reasonably now, but it's been a struggle. He has 3 more days of radiation therapy and then we get a month break before chemo. I'd really appreciate any advice. I don't want to overmedicalize his home life, you know?
