Hi all, I have a problem that I can't find a solution to myself. My 9 month old baby doesn't seem to have the desire for food, she's still breastfeeding. Everytime I would try to feed her solids, she would historical and cry. What must I do.

Feeding a baby solids before 1 year old is mostly for getting them used to new flavors and textures. Breastmilk or formula is still their main source of nutrition. Try feeding your baby only one type of solid food at a time (for 3-5 days) to make sure the child doesn't have an allergy, or to readily identify which food is the cause if there is an allergy. If the child won't eat it, then try something different in a couple days. Don't force the child to eat, as that will have them start associating negative feelings with feeding time. Try to make it fun, but don't stress out if she isn't in the mood.

Thank you Dove and Raye for your very helpful advice. I now know how to deal with with her and be patient with her as well.

As long as she is breastfed on demand and she is growing and thriving... she's fine. Keep offering her a food once or twice a day, but don't worry if she doesn't want to eat it yet. Some babies like purees and prefer being fed... Some babies prefer real food that they can pick up and feed to themselves.

My son was one that wasn't much interested in foods. He was NOT a fan of baby food and preferred to feed himself... but didn't tend to eat very often until much closer to a year... and even had some breast milk only days til around 18 months. I also have a picture of him feeding himself an entire burrito... at 11 months old. ♥

She'll get there.
