I can relate, my son & many nieces& nephews are Marines. During the Korean scare to the Iraq, Iran war. Remember that he is in the Best hands. They are highly trained to watch over each other. Me & my son where on satellite radio & local newspaper etc.. They all asked why I didn't worry, It was because I know he was safer overseas than at home. What I ment by that is at home he could be in a car accident, meet the wrong people etc. Military screens everyone. They are watching over him better than a Mother (and I mean that, he is being watched over24/7).They are closer than family, they rarely argue, since they have a common goal, to help others, Not just holding a gun.My sons SSO, told me not to watch news, online, TV, etc. They just make a mountain out of a molehill. I found out it is so true. My son sensitive, the worse thing that ever happened to him was cleaning up after the tsunami in India. Picking up & burying the dead. My nephew was there also, he didn't see 1 body, he was in construction. The Marine Corp saw how it affected my son, and transfered him, & he received help. I probably would have missed the trauma it caused him. My son also taught English to Koreans.
Dry your tears, and be proud. Fly your flag, and the Army, now your son's standard high. He'll be a better person. Think of the great things he's doing that you won't know about until when he comes home for good. It helps to get involved in volunteer for the military, join a positive hands on support group. From offering your home to sons who don't have a home to visit to sending home-baked, or granola bars to the whole platoon. Remember that he's has a different family, but a family.
If you need help with feeling worried for him to missing your son, contact the closest Army, or any military base. Your part of the family now and they will help you overcoming your fears, to meeting other Mothers that fell the same.
Thank your son for me, for volunteering to serve the US in the Best way.
Hope this helps. Ha, I have tears thinking how good I fell thing about my 'military family' & the kids I met because of my son & his cousins.I have to dry my eyes now.
Happy Mother's Day, to a very special mom.
