Please help . . . my baby has recently turned a 1-year-old, yayy!!! He never accepted a bottle; therefore, I solely breastfed him for one year. Now I'd like to wean him completely from breastfeeding (a year is all I want to breastfeed). With my 1st born it was easier being that he accepted a bottle (with pumped breast milk) aside from being breastfed. The transition was easier with bedtime as I was able to substitute water in the bottle vs milk and now with my 2nd born he is not willing to accept a bottle at anytime (totally resistant). He will drink from a sippy cup or straw cup (sometimes & only for a little during the day) and when it's time for bed (nap or for the evening) he's just not interested. Breastfeeding mothers, please share some input and ideas on methods you've tried that worked for you in weaning your babies from breastfeeding (especially when faced with the challenge of baby not being interested in a bottle/sippy cup at bedtime). Thanking you so much in advance.

I had this same problem with our daughter and she also would only nurse to sleep so it was a double wammy!!!!! She was 18 months when I finally got admitted to a clinic that helps with feeding and sleep issues ( had other things going on too) and I had to take the tough love approach. She was allowed to have a 10 min feed in morning and 10 in evening if she didnt want to feed at this set time then she didnt get it at all. I was hard for the first few times but did get easier, she was totally weaned within two weeks but I think that was more to do with me then her. I would offer milk in a sippy cup or pop top and thats how she had milk, I made sure she had lots of cheese, yogurts, custards to also make up the dairy side of things. Remember that it is a comfort to them as well as a meal so letting go is hard for both but stick with it and he should be alright. I didnt plan to feed as long as I did but at the end of the day I am glad and did enjoy it good luck
