Has any ladies had this or known anyone that has/had it? What was the outcome of it?

I may have it, I am showing signs of it. My OB has ran some tests on me and I have an ultrasound scheduled for next week to confirm it. I'm worried, but I'm sure everything will be ok.

I was put on Metformin for it. Has anyone had to be on it? Outcome?

One thing I am worried about is fertility. Will it affect my fertility at all? Me and hubby is TTC for #3 and I'm worried that it won't happen.

Thanks for any feedback :)

I was diagnosed at 21. It was scary because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get pregnant. At that time I was put on birth control to regulate my period. After I got married I wanted off the BC so my doctor put me on metformin. Within the first month I started ovulating and having periods. Other symptoms like acne also cleared up. Within 3 months of starting metformin I was pregnant with my first. I didn't get my period back until 11 monts postpartum because I was breastfeeding, but it came back all on it's own. I got pregnant with my 2nd when my daugther was 16 months and without the help of meds. My 2nd daughter is now almost 2 months and I still don't have any symptoms returning. My OB said sometimes pregnancy can "reset" the body and some women don't experience issues with PCOS after a pregnancy. There is also a drug called Clomid that they may use to help you ovulate if you are having trouble. Try not to stress too much. If the metformin helps regulate your periods then there's a good chance youcan get pregnant again. Good luck!

I was diagnosed with PCOS like a month ago. And am scheduled for an Ovarian drilling but my OB says I should try to conceive immediately after the procedure to avoid the risks of the cysts growing again and causing infertility later in life. I am not married and my boyfriend and I are still buying time before we can start having children. I am afraid of waiting for long and things turning sour. No woman wants to end up infertile...wishing all women good health.

It can most definitely cause fertility issues. I took bc to regulate my periods, and then when we were TTC nothing. I ended up having to take a monthly cocktail that consisted of metformin, agystin(sp), and clomid, as well as going in for monthly vaginal ultrasounds. That went on for 7 mths after we didn't naturally conceive after about 8 mths. Our princess is now 9, and have not had luck TTC again. Hope this is not the outcome for you. The metformin also gave me some very very bad gastrointestinal issues. Good luck with everything.

My periods were very regular and then I went on BC. When I went off of it nothing happened. My doctor had me take a progesterone pill saying that sometimes you need a jump start when you get off the pill and that worked once, then again nothing happened. It was actually a nurse midwife who suggested PCOS. My bloodwork was great, but the ultrasound confirmed tons of teeny little cysts on my ovaries. I've since had several more ultrasounds since I've had 2 kids and the cysts have been gone fore several years now. Definitely keep in touch with your doctor. Some women have more trouble than others, but some women, like me, have no trouble at all.

My 2 sister-in-laws have PCOS. Both were put on Metformin and Clomid. One sis was able to get prego after 2 yrs, but needed progesterone to stay prego. My other sister still isn't ovulating or getting a regular cycle. They have been trying to get prego for over 4 yrs now. Good luck.

Thanks :) My OB was talking about the clomid if I have any problems getting pregnant with metformin. I'm almost 21 so close to the time you were diagnosed as well :) I've always had problems with my period but I've never brought it up because my mom always told me it was normal. and then I missed my period and negative pregnancy tests after TTC #3 so I went to the doctors for a blood test and this is how it has came about....
I'm glad it won't effect my fertility any, I would be sad :(
