Well if he is prescribing fertility drugs like clomid, the he ought to know how to manage the early pregnancy symptoms and complications. If you feel you are not in good hands, change doctors or get a consultation with a fertility doc.

At three weeks pregnancy, an ultrasound wouldn't pick up anything except maybe the yolk sac. Most doctors won't even do an ultrasound until 5-8 weeks, when there would be a measurable fetus. You should stay in communication with your doctor for accurate answers on what's happening to your body.

I had an ectopic pregnancy a couple years ago. The first symptoms I noticed were spotting and an aching where my left ovary is. It can be difficult to find the embryo early on, even when it is in the uterus, as it is very very tiny. I ended up needing 3 ultrasounds before they were certain it was ectopic. I know it is a terribly stressful situation to be in, but the good news is that if they find it early, they can treat it medically, without the need of surgery, which does the least amount of damage to ur reproductive organs. Also, HCG levels can be a good indicator, but shouldn't be used alone; my levels were perfectly normal for the stage of pregnancy. Be sure to have a follow-up ultrasound regardless of the blood test results until the embryo is found and trust ur instincts. Best of luck, I really hope all is well and that ur pregnancy is a healthy one.

If you are in the care of a fertility doctor, then the most reliable info will come from him. Three weeks gestation (so that's from the actual conception date) would put you at 5 weeks from you LMP. Still very early but a yolk sac, corpus luteum cyst should be visible on US. Best of luck and keep us posted.
