Possible Twin Pregnancy?

I had to go into the ER last Wednesday for severe pain. I was 6 weeks 3 days pregnant at the time. They took an ultrasound and the tech couldn't tell if he was seeing two babies or just a reflection. He only found one fetal pole which was strong. He didn't find another pole. Is it possible that what he decided was a reflection was a twin?

It's possible. Something like 70% of pregnancies start out as twins but eventually end up as a singleton birth. The stronger of the two fetuses (fetai? j/k) will take in more nutrients and eventually over crowd and kill the other fetus, then absorb it into it's own developing body. So, yes, it's possible you have a silent twin in there that will eventually turn into a singleton pregnancy. I'm saying this because the tech only found one pole and not two. That's not to say that in the coming weeks and months you won't see a second baby. It's really just too early to tell.
