Postpartum Anxiety - what coping strategies did you use?

Stephanie - posted on 03/26/2015 ( 2 moms have responded )

Hi...I am a Mum to a beautiful 14 week old baby boy. I had anxiety but on a normal scale during my pregnancy following an ectopic pregnancy in the past. But since my son was born my anxiety has shot through the roof. I have been diagnosed with PPA and taking medication but still experiencing panic attacks, particularly in social situations like going to the shops, cafes etc.
I was wondering what things people have done to help them through the day with their PPA to either calm the anxieties at home or when out. Thanks

Ditto what Jodi said (except the part about having PPD after her daughter)

Good luck, and hang in there!

Are you seeing a psychologist too? You shouldn't be taking medications for anxiety without also having therapy.

I had PPD after having my daughter, and at its worst, was unable to leave the house due to anxiety. Medications alone did not take this away entirely. Behaviour therapy can help you with strategies that work for you.
