Ask them why they prefer nappies to knickers! Tell them that big girls don't wear nappies (yes, I know that they aren't nappies, but to me, pullups are a toddler nappie...no excuses). That big girls who are growing up wear knickers, and in order to go to school, playgroup, etc, they will need to start wearing big girl clothes.

My son was 3 when we discovered that he preferred his pullups over being trained. When we asked him, he very succinctly stated "I don't like the toilet, that's what my pullup is for, and I'd rather have that". In other words, he felt he was "too busy" or that he would "miss something" by going to the toilet, whereas he could just keep on playing in a pullup. Needless to say, his option was removed that day, and he was trained within a week once he realized that we weren't allowing him to be lazy about training any more.
