potty training a 4 year old

I have been trying to potty train my son for over 2 years now. He started on his own at 2 then just stopped after 2 weeks. Then a few months later, potty trained again and stopped again. We've had this happen about 5 times in the last 2 years. Needing some advice on this. I've tried so many things to get him going, but it doesn't last. Help please.

Well, you have to be consistent with it. Just getting started and then stopping and starting over again months later is not going to get him trained. You have allowed him to determine when he will do this and won't. You should have continued with the progress from age two or waited until he was three. Instead you let him do it for a short time, quit, and waited to start again. Most kids by age 4 are trained.
