Potty training an older child

My daughter is 3 1/2 and has yet to use the potty. She is afraid of the toilet, flush, and potty seat. I have read it all and done it all. I leave her in underpants and she holds it for up to 12 hours! Everyone says she will when she's ready, but I don't think she ever will! :) I am curious to see what worked for other moms

I haven't gotten to the potty stage yet, but I'll tell you this.

I have a cousin who is now 18-19. She was afraid of the toilet, everything about it. She was STILL wearing nappies at age 13 because she REFUSED to use the toilet. The welfare took her away from her parents and she had to live elsewhere. She was put in 'mental' classes for 'special-needs' kids, just because she wasn't toilet trained, she was 13 and her Mother was STILL the one changing her nappy.

Keep that in mind, and be stern with your Daughter about using the potty. It's an important stage in yours AND her life.
