Having anxiety about my toddler and a long long car ride (3 1/2 hrs) coming up. Invested a lot of effort to get him trained in underpants but knows he can "go" if I place him in a pullup. So, that being said I don't want my efforts to be in vein and he regresses by putting him in a pullup for the trip. What do I do if he has an accident on the highway and soaks the car seat upholstery? I can change his clothes but then I'm placing him in a wet car seat for the duration of the trip. Is there an easy, convenient preferably disposable thing I can place him on? Any one know of something out there?

We'd usually hit every rest area, and (since we're in Wyoming) an out of the way exit comes in handy too. That way you're not right in the breakdown lane, but still stopping in a fairly quick manner. Also, if you've got some time, have him 'practice' learning how it feels to need to go, and to be able to let you know sooner.

Well, when my kids were that age, we just planned more stops. That, and dad had to learn how to pee on command...

I'm certain that your child can verbally communicate his need to go, right? So, potty before getting in car, potty EVERY stop, and if you have to pull off the interstate for a quick potty, I'm seriously doubtful that you'll be in any trouble for that...unless you run into a real asshole officer.

Other than that, waterproof the seat with a garbage bag, or scotch guard, tell him that he REALLY needs to tell you as soon as he needs to go, so that you can find a place to stop, and travel onward!

I think I may consider the garbage bag idea. When my little guy has to "go", he means 2 minutes ago! If I can't safely stop for him to pee on the side of the road, he's going in his pants. Thank you!
