A 12 year old shouldn't even be talking to strangers online. She shouldn't be chatting to anyone except friends she knows in real life, and even then, under the supervision of an adult.

I agree, at 12, my youngest has no unsupervised internet access. She has only a cheap tracfone to use when away from home, like soccer practice ends early. When at home her Ipod can access the WiFi and she is in a group chat with the other 12 kids in her class. There are 13 kids, 4 boys and 9 girls and they text about homework and school and stuff 12yo talk about. Beyond that, nothing is allowed. I check regularly. I still check my 17 yo phone and computer. I pay the bills; I get access. That is how it goes in this house!

She is 12. When it comes to the internet she has ZERO rights... only privileges... and talking to anyone online that you have not met face to face when you are 12 is grounds to immediately remove all internet privileges except ones she may need for school related things... and then she can do that under complete adult supervision.

At 12 my girls did not have any social media accounts. I would not have them on any internet games where they would be communicating w/ other people... that is a prime place for predators.

Granted these are rules for her mother to make and enforce, but as HER mother... I would strongly be encouraging her to do so before it's your granddaughter's life on the line. He could be a child rapist/murderer in the next town over...

she is 12 and met him through another friend that play the same game she does....they chat on instagram......and I told Mom that she should introduce herself and ask to speak to his mother or all conversation will stop...hopefully this will end gently without stomping on her rights

Amen, turn off the internet access unless you are in the room. Change your WiFi password so she cannot text or chat in private. Get a dialog going about safety. Lots of schools and police departments offer internet safety classes.

I agree with Jodi on that. And I doubt very much this creep is a 12 year old boy and that is is more likely some adult trying to get to your granddaughter. Why is she not monitered on her use of the internet and why is she allowed to communicate with people online that she does not know!?

How old is your granddaughter and why is she allowed to talk to strangers online?
