My daughter is only a few days old and I have been using cloth diapers. Prefolds and covers.
She is breastfed and I read everywhere that breastfed poop is easily washed off in the washing machine. Well it seems something is wrong because every diaper I wash that has poop on it comes out of the wash with pieces of poop still stuck on it! It's really frustrating, and I am re washing a bunch right now hoping they come clean.
I had already been doing small loads, like half the normal size hoping that the extra space would get them clean, but not working!
This load I'm doing now is tiny, just a bunch of prefolds, one cover and two outfits of hers that got poopy as well.

I'm worried I won't be able to keep doing cloth if I can't get the poop off!
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Only thing I can think of is to rinse off each poop diaper before washing it, but every cloth website says I don't have to until she is on solids........

Help me!

If you REALLY feel the need to bleach, you can...if you run them through the wash a second time with some vinegar...it will totally neutralize the bleach. Vinegar is a base...Bleach is an acid...the vinegar base neutralizes the acidic bleach.

You'll be really surprised at what the oxyclean does...it will whiten...and it brightens colors too.
(I sound like a salesman...and I swear I'm NOT!) LOL!

Try sloshing them around in the clean toilet water....and use some oxyclean in the washing machine. Oxyclean is poop's worst enemy!

Yah, rinse them, wash on the hottest water you can, and maybe even soak them for an hour first. If there are pieces of poop still on, then that is what you need to get off before you put them in the wash. Like you get food off your dishes before you put them in the washer.

I wouldn't worry about what the websites say - rinse them first.

And congrats. I knew you were due, but hadn't realised you'd had her yet :)

Ok, I'll try that. I hope it works! I know you can't bleach them, but what can you do to whiten them up somewhat? I know sunlight, but our apt never gets any direct sunlight....
