I recognize that this is a vast debate and I have read several articles regarding the matter (public vs private). I know that obviously the ratio and quality in a private school is supposed to be better although it really all boils down to the teacher and how you follow up at home. Currently, my child is 6 ms but at 1 year old I wanted to place him into a Reggio Emilio private school. I have toured the school and love it, but I sometimes question whether or not putting a 1 yr old in private school is worth it considering that it seems as though they would do the same in a 1 yr old class in daycare where the classes are also relatively small (6 or so children)- it is also much cheaper obviously. I recognize that the philosophy of a Reggio Emilio school is much like Montessori so the practices are different than at a daycare but in all reality- at one year old they are playing freely in a daycare setting the same way Montessori and Reggio allow children to explore and play freely. Can anyone give me some insight or opinion on the matter? Thank you all in advance!

If you are happy w/ his current location then I would leave him there. :)

Yes, unfortunately I work full time so he is currently in daycare and will either continue there with the next teacher that covers the 1 yr old class, or I was planning on enrolling him in the Reggio Emilio private school I mentioned.

I don't believe toddlers belong in school. Play is their learning, so they can do that anywhere (w/ attentive caregivers/parents). Even preschool (3/4) is mostly about play and can be done in any school environment w/ loving and attentive caregivers.

If you have the money and are sending him somewhere regardless... it's totally your choice, but I would be more focused on the staff than the school. I was always able to stay w/ my children and none of them entered any sort of school experience under 3 years of age. Prior to that they were always w/ me and we attended play groups or hung out w/ their same aged cousins at 1/2 years old.
