My son is now 4 weeks old and I have breastfed him since day one.He has now began to projectile vomit and I am concerned. Know why this is happening and how to prevent it?

This could be shigella virus, or maybe something is wrong with his pylorus (this is more common in boys and can be fixed). Either way keep an eye on his skin color - if you notice mottling of his skin or his soft spot seems as though it is sinking in he should be seen sooner than later! newborns dehydrate very fast and usually projectile vomiting is an indication that nothing or next to nothing is entering the tract for absorption, that would be a cause for concern. Vomitting in a newborn x2 consecutively with knowing he is not holding anything in should be dealt with immediately. Good job breastfeed - do not give that up ;) and good luck.

Projectile vomiting means that he's got a physical problem.

Take him to the physician.
