Punishing woes! I hate punishing my kids. Any punishing ideas?

So I am an inconsistant punisher! I am working on it though but I am having a few issues. So my 8 y/o who has ADHA has been acting out in school and got in trouble and I decided to punish her. But when I punish I usually go back on the punishment because I feel soooo bad for her. She has ADHD and a lot of her behavior is dealing with impulse which I feel she can't control. I look at it like this, what kid WANTS to get in trouble? She is a straight A student. So I have a problem with punishing her because of her ADHD and feel she can't control it. She isn't on meds so I do a lot trying to figure out her triggers. Am I being too lenient? Anyone have any punishment suggestions?

My son doesn't have ADHD so I'm not sure if it would work the same but what I found works is (for example) last year he got a detention in school (third one in a short time) so he was grounded for a month but for every day that he did not get a demerit he got half a day taken off his punishment. It has worked really well for us because he still gets a punishment but he gets a chance to redeem himself & get part of the punishment removed. Good luck!

i know this sounds weird but do not punish her at all. i made a post about drug use and parent-child trust that you should read. the whole drug thing doesn't relate but maybe you can apply what i wrote to this situation.

try reading the book how to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk. it has some great things in there. I'm also reading 38 difficult behaviours and how to stop them and it has some great things too. Also if she's seeing a therapist try talking to the therapist to get some ideas on how to help her.
