I am 40 year old mother with a son of 16 years old i was interested to know what the best form of punishment would be for a 16 year old and is it normal for moms to often get pleasure from punishing their sons or daughters? If someone would care to give me some ideas and advice on this touchy subject i'd greatly appreciate it.

I do not think writing lines would be at all effective at his age. If it's a serious repetitive behavior... perhaps a paper on what he did wrong, why it was wrong, and what he should have done instead could drive the point home (because he'd have to think of what he's going to say). Writing the same thing over and over again is likely to just frustrate and prolong the situation you are trying to end.

I take no joy from disciplining my kids. It is a part of parenting but I get no pleasure from it, and I agree with Ev and Dove, that it is not normal to get pleasure from punishing your kids. Writing lines would not phase my kids, while taking away their phone or computer time certainly as proven effective.

Depending on the actions of your son, different forms of punishment would be suitable. Given this day and age, taking his social media or device from a certain time in the aftrenoon could be effective. Punishments can be personal and are more likely to be effective if its taking away something your son enjoys. As for getting pleasure from it, that could just be the satisfaction knowing he hasn't gotten away with it and is now reeping the consequences.

A good form of punishment or consequence for any teen is to take their privileges away or their tech. As for enjoying doing this, no it is not enjoyable.

I do not think it is normal to take pleasure in punishing your children.

Consequences depends on behavior. Generally taking away privileges/electronics is a good motivator for a teenager.

What kind of lines? Writing lines? Not likely.
