pushing and not pooing ...

I would cut dairy out but it would have zero affect. I'm his dad. Sorry for infiltrating. Hahaha! I noticed that when isearched for information, this site would always cone up. I will relay these messages to my wife. My son is breasted and my wife has tried cutting dairy out and it hasn't seemed to help. We just cane out of a terrible colicky month too. So once again I apologize for being a man on A Circle of Mothers.... I just want to help my wife and son.
Thanks for all of the advice.

Is he breastfed or formula fed? If breastfed, he could be reacting to dairy in your diet. the solution would be for you to stop eating dairy. If formula feeding, he may need a more gentle kind. How often is baby pooing? My son (breastfed) would poo about every 3 to 5 days before we started solids. Then it would be a poopsplosion. Defiantly not constipated.
You can try gripe water. That may help. You can massage his tummy. You can also be extra vigilant to burp him. Extra gass can cause discomfort when it comes to pooping time.

He's 3 1/2 months. He's not constipated. His poops are actually normal when he does poo. We rub his belly, pump his legs , massage and all that other good stuff. He just pushes. I understand that it's ok for babies to squirm and push as long as there is no discomfort but he gets worked up and cries.
