Railroad Moms

I am newly married and my husband works for UP. He has worked with them for 8 years, starting first on one of the gangs (gone for 7-8 days, home for 6-7) and over the last two years he transitioned into being a signal maintainer. My husband also has full custody of his three children, their mom only seeing them every other weekend WHEN she chooses to.

Due to some stuff that has come up recently with work, he has started looking into going back on with a gang crew. He loved doing that, and hates being a signal maintainer. The only benefit is that being a maintainer means hes home everyday instead of every other week.

I'm scared for him to go back on one of the gang crews, because that means mean being home with my SK all alone. They're 5, 8, and 10 and I love them dearly, but they are overwhelming and I'm scared to do this on my own without any help. Especially considering that we are VERY newly married.

Any advice out there? Moms or step moms in the same situation?
