Raising My Isabelle

I'm a single school teacher. I've been divorced for 8 years. I was married for 23 years, My daughter had a beautiful baby girl when she was 17. My ex remarried quickly after our divorce and has nothing to do with our daughter or granddaughter. My daughter and boyfriend (father of Isabelle) got into drugs. I have been raising sweet Isabelle since she was 10 mos. old. This is a DHR dance.

I am so sorry! This is a tough situation and I am sure your heart feels like it is breaking some days. I am sorry that your marriage ended after so many years together, that is painful and I am sure the pain comes back on certain days as well. It is also sad that your daughter's dad is not involved in her life or the life of his granddaughter. That is a big loss as well. There is not much you can do for your daughter and boyfriend until they are willing to get the help they need. You can keep encouraging that they get in a rehab program but they have to make that choice. You also need healthy boundaries with them because drug use can wreak havoc in your life and in your home. Isabella is so blessed to have YOU!! You are providing her love, nurturing and stability to grow into a beautiful young woman with a future ahead of her. We can only hope that it is Isabella's life that touches your daughter's heart to heal from her addiction. It would be great if Isabella had her mom, but she has been blessed to have you by her side. Treasure your relationship with her and KNOW that you are making a big difference in her life EVERY day. Be gentle with yourself and try to schedule some time with family and friends. You need support and love too! You are a hero that is not on the front page of the news, but a hero all the same! Hang strong and know that your life is greatly impacted another precious life. Wishing you peace and strength and hope.
