I do not have a personal experience in it but I did a little research on it and these are my findings:
I'll start with convertible seats that are good for compact cars:
Britax Roundabout/Roundabout 55 is said to great for small cars. It can be used rear facing/forward facing and has weight rage of 4-40(RF) and 20-55(FF)..Apart from being compact and it has some great features like base with SafeCell and two buckle positions.
EvenFlo Triumph LX is also a good option as a compact car seat..it is crash tested and is said to be comfy.. The FFing weight limit on Evenflo is higher than Roundabout and goes upto 65 lbs , so it will probably last you longer. It doesn't have the LATCH system (in case that is imp to you)
Both these seats cannot be used as booster.. so they are not 3-in-1 seats.. but can still be given a thought considering that most 3-in-1 seats are big and bulky.
I do have one recommendation for an all-in-one-seat- Evenflo Symphony DLX.. I'm not sure if it small enough to fit in your car but I think it is much compact than most other car seats and has a reputation of doing well in small cars.
It has got great safety features like Advanced e3 (reduces Side Impact crash force by 50%) and provides good lap and shoulder belt fit for typical 4 to 8 year-olds in almost any car, minivan or SUV.
It doesn't exactly come cheap.. but price shouldn't be an issue for a seat that will last you long!
You can visit the official sites of these car seats for more info:
You can also do a custom search based on your baby's weight, height and your budget.. and find a seat that suits your needs here:
You might find something that I have missed out on:)
I hope this info helped you :)

My son is going to grow out of his car seat soon he is almost too long for it. Right now we have a graco infant car seat. Hopefully some other moms will be able to help us out. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Sorry I don't have an answer, but I am interested in your findings! I have a small car as well (Mitsubishi Eclipse 2-dr) and I am pregnant with my first. The car seat we were given as a gift is too big to fit in my car. We are keeping it for my husband's car, but are in search of one that will fit into mine.
What car seat were you using before? Or is it a new car, so you need a new seat that will fit the car, not that baby outgrew the old one?
