If your son is born in Australia then that means he is a citizen not permanent resident. Permanent resident you have to apply for where citizen is automatic cause he was born here. He would have a birth certifcate that proves his citizenship. He is entitled to alot more then you or your husband. You can do everything on permanent residency except vote, have a passport and collect the doll. I am from Canada but last year got my citizenship, my daughter is Australian as is my husband.

It means that you are allowed to permanently reside and work in Australia.
I am from the UK but I am a permanent resident of Australia, my visa states that I am allowed to live here forever and undertake employment. I am allowed to claim benefits if I am entitled to them.
Are you and you're son Aussie??
