My son refuses to go to Rhianna concert now that his father got a ticket and will be attending as well. He would be traveling on a railroad for about an hour and a half into Brooklyn. The concert is expected to be over at 11:00. I am not comfortable allowing two teenagers at the concert without adult supervision. Am I being overprotective?

Also, i have to add that not only not going with an adult to a concert that far and in an unknown area, most cities over the whole US anymore have curfew's that are upheld as city, state or county law meaning if caught out without an adult they could get into trouble for being out past curfew. Here it is 10 pm on week nights and 11 pm on weekend nights.

My girls are 14... and there is no way they would travel w/out an adult 1.5 hours away and not be getting home til at least 12:30am. That's not likely to change in the next 2+ years either. They could go w/ an adult or not at all.

I agree, there are just too many variables; the area, having to navigate the city, catch the right train home, the people etc. If he were older, then that would be another matter. How does his GF parents feel about her going into the city without any supervision?.

thank you so much! I thought exactly that and told him so. He hates me right now and I am having a tough time with it but I do know I made the right decision.

I would make that the deal, dad goes or he does not. A kid going 1.5 hours away to a city like that where he does not know the area or anyone there he can be safe with just is asking for trouble being alone at his age. Have you explained how dangerous some areas of New York City and the boroughs are? Some places have gangs and if this concert is in an area where gang activity is high, he could be in danger and his girlfriend with him. Besides that I would not advocate kids going to concerts this day and age because a lot of the music and songs are not appropriate for a 15 year old.
