Hi not sure if in the right area to post. Just wondering if anyone has had experience of this during pregnancy. I'm also worried as a section of the tooth has an anagram filling already. Can root canal still be done on this tooth? Thanks Suzanne

There are definite precautions that are taken when working with mercury, and safe disposal for sure. It sounds like this tooth needs to be addressed asap. I would go talk with your dentist about your specific concerns before having the procedure done to ensure you know all the possible outcomes.

Stop going on line about this! Ask your very well trained professional! There are a lot of nut jobs especially concerning dentistry and most of them have no idea what they are talking about.

If you have an abscess, that can cause many issues that can lead to bigger problems and a lot more dental work. Try to get it taken care of asap. Maybe write down short questions about your concerns to set your mind at ease and the Doctor can answer them for you.

Most of the worst of your pregnancy symptoms have probably disappeared by this point. As your waistline continues to expand, you will continue to gain weight. Be careful, as at this point your appetite will increase and you’ll feel the need to “eat for two.” For more info please visit http://motherhow.com/14-weeks-pregnant/

Hi thanks for your reply I had pain before the pregnancy but on/off. Although since getting pregnant ive had antibiotics and an abscess that has got bigger even after treatment so it's getting worse than it was. I had seen online ppl taking about the risk of mercury poisoning when dealing with a tooth that has this type of filling

Treatment like this during the first trimester is not ideal. Second trimester should be fine. As long as your Dentist knows you are pregnant. Is this something new that just currently happened that you NEED a root canal during pregnancy? Is it something that is urgent? Often times, when a women is pregnant, Dentists will forgo fillings etc unless absolutely necessary.

Aside from the pregnancy involvement, yes you can have a root canal on a tooth with an amalgam filling. They will most likely have to remove the amalgam.
