SAHM.. Life after kids?

I am a SAHM w/two kids.. Although I love staying home with them, I've lately been thinking about life after they are fully in school and eventually, off to college. At that time, I will be older, not retirement age, by any means, but definitely not at the age to start a new career. At this point in time, I can go to school part-time and possibly start a career when they are elementary school age.. But will that take too much time away from them? Am I sacrificing too much now to secure something later down the line? Any advice?

Why would you not be the age to start a new career? I know people who start a new career in their 40s! Or even 50s! And by being away from them while they are in school? Can't you study part time? You won't be taking away from them. You would actually be setting a great example to them.
