Sassy Mouth

My daughter is 12 years old and really has a sassy mouth. She doesn't do it with any other adults but me. She says that she doesn't know why she does it and she is trying to stop but this has been going on for at least a year. She also says that maybe it's because we are together all the time (I'm a stay at home mom and her dad works offshore). She is a good kid, straight A's and involved in sports. I just don't know what else to do besides beating her, which I really don't know what else to do. I have tried grounding her and taking away her ipad but that doesn't seem to work either. I'm pulling my hair out on this one. HELP!!

If she only does it with you that's a good indicator that she can control it. Pick a consequence and stick with it. If she is talking sassy... she can repeat what she said in a civilized manner... or she can get out of your face (to her room) until she changes her attitude. If she's being sassy over asking to go do something with her friends... it's an automatic 'no'.

This is the advice that I wish 'I' would follow more often. My kids are awesome for others and pretty good for me 'most' of the time, but.... yeah... I let a lot of things go because of how great they are turning out otherwise.
