At 7 months pregnant I relapsed on oxycodone and xanax. I took them for a total of 9 days and when I stopped I started to go thru withdrawal. I called my doctor and broke down begging her for help because I didnt want to dig myself into a deeper hole and I love my baby. She drug tested me and of course I showed positive for both substances just like I told her I would. She told me there wasn't anything she could do for me and handed me a pamphlet for rehab. she also stated that she was documenting this In my chart and dcf (child protective services) will be notified. I took it upon myself to get hooked up with a methadone maintenance program where they do one on one counseling once a week and random drug screens. I've kept myself at a very low dose and I'm also inquiring about parenting classes. My significant other is drug and alcohol free and owns our home and works a steady job. I'm due for c-section on July 13th and I've remained clean from everything but the methadone obviously. my biggest fear is dcf taking my baby away for what has happened. I'm desperate for any feedback or experience that someone has in a similar situation. Let me also add that baby and I are clean now and will be at time of birth.

Thank you ladies I appreciate the response. I'm fully aware of the methadone Will affect the baby for the doctor has educated me on it. It breaks my heart to know she will be born addicted. However, from all the tests and monitoring that's been done thus far shows a perfect healthy baby. All I can do is continue on the path I'm on and pray that everything works out.

If you stick to your rehab and do everything DCF/CPS tells you to do, then chances are you will get to keep your child. Since you are on Methadone, the child will be born addicted and have to go through withdrawal at the hospital for several days/weeks, and CPS will be monitoring that situation. Keep in touch with the doctor who can look for abnormalities both during the remainder of your pregnancy and afterward, and hope that you haven't done any lasting damage to your child.

I cannot offer you any guidance or reassurance because I have not personally gone through this. I just wanted to offer you support. Having a relapse while pregnant is obviously not ok, but you are taking action to correct what you have done, and not to relapse again. I really hope rehab, and the methadone works for you. This would be a great we to stay clean, for you, your baby, and your partner. I wish you the best, and a very healthy baby. Good luck love. Keep up the hard work.
