Scared and need to know answers

I recently went to the ER for urinating blood, my husband and I thought I was 6 weeks pregnant, I took 6 Pregnancy tests and missed 2 periods along with having symptoms of pregnancy. When they did a sonogram they said there was no baby, and that there was a very defiant line on the sonogram screen... I am worried that I am not able to conceive or that I had a misscariage, because he said there was no rounding? Any answers you can think of as to why this is would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Natalie,

I know the staff at the hospital was focused to find reasons for the blood in your urine rather than to determine if you were pregnant. They could have upset you without realizing it. I strongly suggest you treat yourself and your body as if you are pregnant until you see your doctor to get your HCG levels checked. Here is a time frame example to ease your mind as to how your tests could have missed showing the baby.

Let's say you were to have your period on July 20th, it doesn't arrive so you count it as a missed period. However you actually conceived late in the month, July 18th. So though you missed a period you are only a few days pregnant. August 20th rolls around and you miss another period. Though you are pregnant you have just past the 2 week mark in actual pregnancy time. You then eeel ill and go the ER in the first week of September. You are just over the mark of 4 weeks pregnant. The ultra sound will show nothing because it is just too soon, even though you are pregnant. My daughter came a full month over due! I was so worried and asked the doctor why he was letting me go so long. He told me the due date could be two weeks either way to allow for the actual time of conception. I was due March 28th and she didn't arrive until April 30th and I had to be induced! So address the blood in your urine which can be many things unrelated to pregnancy, and keep your chin up.

Here is info copied from ultrasound data

Detecting a Gestational Sac on Ultrasound

The gestational sac is seen earlier than a fetus can be detected on an ultrasound. A gestational sac can be seen as early as the fifth week of pregnancy or three weeks after conception. If no gestational sac is seen, it could mean that the expectant mother ovulated late. If HCG levels are 1100, most doctors will order a repeat ultrasound in a few days.

* Detecting a Fetus on Ultrasound

A fetus can be detected as early as the sixth week of pregnancy. Many ultrasound technicians prefer to wait until at least that point in the pregnancy to do an ultrasound and many prefer waiting until the eighth week of pregnancy when more of the development of the fetus can be seen.
