Hello everyone... I'm new to the forum and am looking for some feedback from other moms here. My 9 yr old son was just put on seroquel for mood disorder and I'm scared to start him on it. I researched it and I'm reading a lot of bad things about it. I would appreciate any feed back whether positive or neg because I'm very reluctant to start him on it, but he needs some kind of stabilizer. Thank you!!!

Hi Gena! Yes my son is diagnosed adhd, odd, depressive and anxiety. We been thru 2 stimulants adhd meds and they made him more aggressive. We have also been thru several SSRI's but no help from them. We had him on risperdal for about maybe 6 mos and he did fantastic but he developed tardive dyskinesia and we had to ween him off it. So ever since he came off it everything had gotten so much worse. Obviously the antipsychotics work great for him but we are trying to avoid another one that could possibly cause tardive dyskinesia again. Idk where to turn, we are also doing therapy as well. We have an excellent psychiatrist who I trust 100% but one never knows how a med will affect an individual until it's tried. Any help is greatly appreciated. I def don't want him wigged or zoned out... Oh btw he was also on lamictal which did absolutely nothing so we discontinued it. So we have been thru quite a few meds and nothing seemed to help except the risperdal but we had to stop it....

Seroquel is quite a heavy medication..its a neurological medication and I personally would never start it. I had it when I was 16 and it was terrible. I felt like a zombie and put on alot of weight. I don't know why they put me on a neurological medication when all I needed was an antidepressant because I was in a depression. May I ask if your son has major mood problems? Why does the doctor think seroquel would be best? Have you tried any other therapy options? I am not a doctor..but I find giving seroquel to a 9 year old quite heavy. I would check EVERY other option before starting it. Hope I could help abit.
