Hi moms, my hubby and I really need some advice. My 7 month old naps great during the day ( 3 naps/day about an hour and a half or hour and 15 min, 3rd nap of the day is usually a cat nap) and he sleeps great in his crib and falls asleep on his own. The problem is he is an early riser. About 5 am sometimes it was a little earlier. We have tried putting him to bed later, about 8 or 8:30 and he woke up at 5:30 am. I usually put him down for naps about 2 ish hours after he wakes up when he starts showing he is tired and then he will just fall asleep right away. The problem is, if his last nap of the day is a bit earlier.. say about 3 or 4.. he will go to bed at 6:30, which is what he did last night. He woke up TWICE (11:30 and again at 2 ) when he woke up at 2 am we couldn't get him back to sleep until 3:30! Just did not want to go back to sleep. So I'm wondering if the early bed time is messing him up.. but if he's dead tired at 6 or 7 pm there is no way to keep him up any later as he gets really cranky. So I'm wondering how I can possibly change his schedule without forcing him to stay up.. :-/

2nd problem, when he wakes up at night we are not sure if we should be feeding him or not ..as he won't really go back to sleep if we don't feed him. We are tired and frustrated and don't know what to do. Help!

My son was a cat napper at your son's age... and he woke to nurse 1-5 times/night until he was 2!

Trying to have a schedule can be a great thing, but you kind of also have to 'go w/ the flow' when it comes to babies. If he wants to eat... feed him. If he wants to sleep... let him sleep. If he doesn't want to sleep... good luck. lol ♥

You are welcome. My daughter was one who did sleep all night from 3 weeks on from 11 pm to 7 am. My son on the other hand started sleeping longer at night about about 8 months but due to consistent ear infection problems he was up and down all night every couple weeks. By age one we had stopped the ear infections and he was better but as soon as he was in a toddler bed it was 8 pm bedtime with sister. He was up and down until midnight wide awake and I kept putting him back to bed until he passed out. He was up at 6 am regardless of how much sleep I had. He did that until he was 4.5 years old. I even tried taking his naps away when he was older but they did not help and later I needed that nap time because my schedule had changed so I could get about 6 hours of sleep a day split into 3 hour shifts.

Babies this age do not stick to a specific schedule or sleep all night through. He may be changing up his pattern and will do so off and on until he is between 1 to 2 years of age. At night babies do tend to wake and do need those extra feeding so feed him if he wakes up and wants it.
