Hello! Does anyone have a child who was diagnosed with seasonal allergies before the age of one? OR maybe not officially diagnosed, but you know that's what it is? My son's 10 months old and has been congested (nose and phlegmy cough) for 6 months. Antibiotics don't touch it and I find it hard to believe he's had a constant cold for this long. What treatments do you use?

At such a young age, I'd consider an irritant in the house may be the cause? Something that others may be tolerant too already. If the baby is breast fed, then allergies should not be bothering him.

There is a little bit of asthma in the family. There was no lung congestion with my kids. There often was nasal congestion, I can't remember with the cough (it's been a long time), but it was persistent. A vaporiser in the bedroom at night helped too.

Jody - did they have nasal congestion and a rattle in their cough? His lungs are clear. Does asthma run in your family?

Ask your doctor about bronchial asthma. Both of my kids has seasonal asthma as kids, but noone diagnoses it appropriately. Antibiotics don't help, so don't do it. I ended up with my kids on ventolin and also a preventative. If you can't get a satisfactory answer from your doctor, perhaps get a referral to a paediatric respiratory specialist.
