Hi everyone! Does anyone know of an ob/gyn that will see you for an ultrasound before 8 weeks? I am going to be out of state from 7w5d to 9w and really want to know that everything is okay before I travel. I had a missed miscarriage in April, so I really don't want to wait any longer than I have to to be seen. My current OB office is trying to tell me they can't see anyhting on a ultrasound before 8 weeks, which upsets me because when I went in for my 8 week appointment the first pregnancy, I was only measuring 6 weeks and we could see the baby....tiny, but still visible and it was enough to show us there was something wrong. Any suggestions on how to be seen in the 7th week?

I found an office that said "of course we will see you before your trip!" they feel that dates are approximate anyway, so whats 2 or 3 days? So relieved.

As frustrating as it is, the office is probably following insurance protocol and the AMA standard of the first visit at 8 weeks. However, since you have miscarried before, I'd get in touch with your OB (or a new one) and ask for at least your labs to be drawn. Low progesterone is easily corrected and if you HCG is low, at least you know. I know how hard it is to have lots a baby and then play the waiting game the next time around. Remember that millions of women do miscarry and go on to have uncomplicated pregnancies from there. I know that may sound a bit dismissive, and that is not my intent. I know when I lost twin girls to a birth defect, some of the things people told me were very hurtful, even though that was not their intent. I will pray for you and your tiny one.

Hi Sarah, thanks for your reply. My OB office basically doesn't do anything for you until 8 weeks, unless you are having complications. They don't do labs or anything until that point. I am asking my primary care physician for HCG, and also considering looking for a new OB office. I know that even if everything looks ok on sonogram that there are still risks, but I'm more blown away that they won't do anything even just 3 days early.

Well you doctor is not being truthful. While not very useful and pregnancy can be seen on US before 8 weeks. At the very least, the gestational sac will be visible at 4 weeks. You may have to pay out of pocket and an US can be very costly. One place to try would be a Right To Life program, they often do free US in an effort to persuade young women from aborting. If you want to PM your city and state I might be able to help you find someone. That answers your question.
Now on another note, seeing the pregnancy may prove reassuring but ultimately will not guarantee anything. If you have had a previous miscarriage, you should be under close care right now. More important than an US is your labs, is you HCG high, is your progesterone where is should be?
