she is picking her face and causing sores

My 19 mo girl is a picker, she now picks anything she can feel on her face (sometimes even what she doesn't feel) and turns it into a big nasty sore. She has about five wounds on her face now and I don't know what to do anymore, I have tried redirecting her attention, showing her the booboos and saying NO, but she keeps doing it. It is a habit now. Please help.

My son just started doing this the last few months (he's 2.5 yrs). Especially his nose, it became covered in little scabs.
His doctor prescribed an antibotic/corticosteroid cream and instructed me to keep his nails clipped shorter and rounded. Make sure you wash her hands often to prevent infection. His has almost disappeared and because I keep his nails shorter he hasn't been able to dig any new ones.
I think there's little you can do to stop her. In the same way you couldn't really stop a nail biter. I'm sure it won't hurt to try to redirect her though. Maybe do some research on behavioural habits.

Keep her nails really short and check her mouth for emerging teeth. My daughter tends to pull at her cheeks and rub her face constantly when teething. She is now 28 months and getting back molars, she constantly has her fingers in her mouth or wet cheeks from slobber which makes her cheeks red raw and blotchy.

Try and put something in her hands so she can not pick and if it gets really bad put her into mits.
