My 6 month old son was exposed to shingle from one of my friends. The area that she has the shingles was covered with clothes, so he did not come in contact with any of the blisters. Should I be worried about my son coming down with the chicken pox? How long does it usually take for the virus to appear and what exactly am I looking for?

I was just diagnosed with Shingles and have a 15 month old daughter so I had similar questions - although my daughter has had her chicken pox shot.

The shingles virus is not as contagious as the actual chicken pox virus but it can still be transmitted. My pediatrician said that it could incubate between 7-21 days. The doctor who diagnosed me said 2 weeks from the time of infection/contact with the virus.

Good Luck! I am sure that your son will be ok.
