That size sounds about right to me. You should have your daughters feet checked every 12 weeks or if they become difficult to put on. Childrens feet grow at different stages and sometimes they can go up a whole size in 12 weeks and others times they do not grow at all. My daughter now aged 26 months has only needed new shoes twice. She seems to go six months without needing any and then all of a sudden will shoot up a whole size. Just keep an eye on her feet and get them measured regularly.

Hahaha! I always knew my son's feet were huge, but this just MAJORLY confirmed it. He got his first pair of shoes at about 8 months I think and was a 5.5 wide. At 15 1/2 months, I got his feet measured and he was an 8.5 wide. :)
I have never gotten my kids feet checked other than at regular check ups. However, my kids all have big feet and always have. 5-6 is what my last daughter was in about 18-24 mos. then she had another growth spurt and she is now in a 9 at age 3. (just turned on Oct.)

I always checked the fit in the toes. If the toes were tight then it was time to change. Ironically is still holds true for teenagers. A good rule of thumb is that if you have a thumb space between the front barrier of the shoe and the end of the toe you will have a few months before they outgrow them. But after 4 kids they do all grow at different rates and it feels like I'm always buying shoes for someone!!!

One thing I have learned is that some kids feet grow fast and some slow even in the same family. My son who just turned 7, can wear a size 5 already (and that can be in men's sizes too). My 5 year old is only wearing size 12t, and my 2 year old is already up to 10t!

my son is almost 16 months and is in a size 5 (just changed sizes last week). i get his sized when either i feel his toes getting too close to the tip of his shoe or when he seems to not like putting his shoes on anymore because they're tight
