Should an almost 11 year old boy be old enough to take his own showers?

My son will be 11 years old on March 1 and my husband still has to supervise his showers. He used to give him his showers until this past summer, but now he has to stay in the bathroom and instruct him to wash. My son still tries to goof off and play in the shower. If we left him alone in there, we feel that it'll be over an hour before he's done! What do we do??

Work on his routine. With adhd, odd, and behavioural disorders, routine is key. He is not a "normal" 11 year old, and that needs to be adjusted for.

We have had him assessed. He's got ADHD, ODD and he's on medication (Aderall). I think it's all about priorities for him. He'll get ready on time when it's for something like a soccer game or practice to the exact minute. But he'll procrastinate when it's something that he considers a waste of time like showering or brushing teeth. In his mind he wants everything that he does to be all about fun. We've tried everything - rewards, taking away privileges.... what can we do?
