my son didnt spend more then a minute on his tummy til 6 months he absolutely despised it. Then one day just aftewr 6 months he rolled onto it and loved it within weeks he learned to pull himself up and cruise the furniture, then was crawling by 7.5 months and walking and climbing by 11. Not being on his tummy didnt affect any part of his development one bit. I dont think you need to worry

once he did raise his head very well while on his tummy and arms just beside his head and arms bent. Maybe I just try it at the wrong time (like he is not in the mood to do it, or tired). I will keep trying and give him some tummy time every day, but also not worry about it. Thanks for the advice : )

At 3 months there is no need to worry, 3-6 months is normal for most babies.. there are no rules.. they work it out in their own time, just make sure you give them times on their tummies so he can practice at it.. they get it little by little day by day.. they fuss, cry, get frustrated, and you help and encourage and get down and play with them.. I had one that just balanced on his tummy and flailed his arms and legs in the air like a swimmer.. for weeks, like he was trying to get somewhere, with the most earnest and determined look on his face and fussy!.. finally he held himself up, crawled at 5 months, walked at 8 and I was not ready for that!! Just don't always put them in a baby seat or chair or always on their back, they need the tummy exercise for development.. don't worry.. these next weeks and months you will see progress then he will be walking and you will wish he was back on his tummy again!! LOL have fun and enjoy your sweet little one!!

My kids could never stand being on their tummy, as Amy said they'd just get mad and cry and bang their faces on the ground because they couldn't get their arms in a position to hold their head up. Two of my kids never raised themselves up on their arms (until they were much older watching telly on the floor). All 3 kids are now perfectly normal with complete control of arm and neck muscles.

Do you mean a full extension on his arms, or he can't raise up at all? What happens if you try posistioning him on his tummy with his arms bent so that his forearms are still on the ground will he lift himself up then or just fall flat? My daughter only does it if I put her down with her elbows bent, otherwise she usually just gets mad (also 3 months old).
