my son is just about to be 2 1/2 and he isn't saying much. he says a couple of words and understands me at some points. but he is not at all where most 2 year olds are suppose to be. i've done hearing test. and they said he is fine.

another weird thing is. when he was about 18-20 months he was saying more words than he does now. is there something i should be worried about? or just give him time??? i've heard over and over again to just leave him alone. that boys are lazy. what can i do? help???

he is now in ECI (early childhood development) for about a month now. and just not started daycare a week ago. i did forget to mention, he does mock a lot of words and movements off movies. but will not do it outside of watching the movie. i don't know if thats a good or bad thing. good that hes saying words, or bad he won't do it on his own. he has a doctor appointment next week. hopefully the doctor will give me good advice.

Losing words CAN be a definite cause for concern. His hearing is fine, so that's good. The next step would be a full evaluation. If you are in the US, Easter Seals will do this for free AND provide free services if he qualifies.

SOME boys may be 'lazy', but certainly not all of them. My nephew was having conversations with adults at 2. My son was speaking paragraphs at 2.5, but didn't have the pronunciation and he still qualified for speech therapy at 3 just for pronunciation.

Personally, I'd be making some calls asap. He might end up just 'lazy' as people are saying, but he might end up needing some help. If he DOES need help, the sooner the better. If not... no harm done. :)
