Is this something that is important or can it be set aside until we get some teeth?

I was gonna suggest the same as Kelly. I liked using the kid sized wash cloths because they fit better in their little mouths. Just use cold tap water....should be fine unless your tap water is not considered fit for drinking.

Thanks Kelly, should I use nursery water or is tap ok? I'm pretty sure just to be safe, nursery water, but is it ok to use tap water?

YES! It is VERY important to begin good oral hygiene very early on. Failure to clean the gums can introduce bacterial growth, like thrush, which is very painful, as well as others that will weaken the gums and possibly cause gum disease.

To clean her gums, just take a damp washcloth and wrap it around your finger. Gently swab her gums with your cloth covered finger. No need for soaps or toothpaste at this time, just clean water.
