My boys are having birthdays in April one will turn 1 and the oldest will turn 5. I'm thinking of doing a joint party but don't have any ideas on what theme. Any suggestions or should I not do a joint party and have them separate?

Does the 5 year old have friends he plans on inviting? Do you feel like your 1 year old will be ok with 10 other kids running around that he doesn't know. The first birthday is really more for the parents then the child and it can be very overwhelming for a child. We kept my daughters low key with just grandparents.

If the 5 year old isn't having friends and it's just going to be family I would do a combo, but if he wants friends there I would do a party for just his friends and then do a combo family party for the both of them together.

Hosting a joint party isn’t a bad idea but I think you must speak to your elder one and find out if he would be comfortable hosting a joint party. Since its mostly going to be family and friends party, I don’t think a joint party would affect the celebrations in any way. Moreover, your younger one is too young to understand the significance of the celebrations.

I was thinking of doing family and my 5 year olds friends! For the past years we've done big parties for him sl that's not an issue, I was just trying to come up with some themes that would be good for both of them

If it is just a family party you are thinking of having, but if it is with friends, I would do a separate one.
