should I do anything to help my baby's umbilical cord fall off? She was born 10 days ago, and it looks like it's ready to come off.

it'll come off on it's own. if you try and take it off it could get infected =(

just let it fall off by itself

i was told as well by the doctor to put alcohol on it then gave me about 500 of those wipie things with alcohol on them already. he didnt say that there was any benefit to doing it or not doing it.. just that it was something i could do. i did it a few times then found that if i just let it air dry for a few minutes at each change, it ended up drying up faster anyways.

As most have said, it will fall off on it's own without putting anything on it.

Quoting Kim:

You should be cleaning the cord with alcohol with each diaper change. This helps aid in drying and it should fall off on its own.

I was told by my pediatrician that putting alcohol on the cord does nothing to help it fall of.

If you 'Help" the cord fall off early it can let in infection. you can put a little alcohal on it to make sure it is dired out but definatly let it come off on it's own.
