Should I even ask my son's dad if I can leave the country with my son?

Is there any certain way to tell my son's dad (my ex) that I want to take my son to S. Korea for a month? It will be to visit MY side of the family. I'm more than sure he won't want me to take him there, but I also need to get away from everything for a little while . Any suggestions?

In that case my only suggestion is to talk to him about it. Perhaps offering him more visitation before and after the trip to make up for time that he'll miss would help. If he objects to you taking him... you will need to ask a lawyer what your options are. It's best to talk to him as soon as possible, so that he doesn't throw a monkey wrench into your plans at the last second.

He may KNOW you would never take off with your son, but whether or not he tells the cops that you did would depend on how desperate he is for you not to go.

I have full legal custody, but I don't want to just up and go. He gets our son two day a week and I am wanting to go for a month. I just don't know how to go about trying to convince him that it'll be a good thing. And he knows I would never take his son and disappear so that's not an issue!

What is your custody situation? If you have full legal custody I wouldn't think there would be any problems as long as your trip will not interfere with any of the father's visitation. If you have joint legal custody and/or the trip will interfere with his visitations.... you need permission from either your ex or the court.... or he could potentially have you charged with kidnapping.
