Hi ladies, I'm new here but would really like some advice so here goes... I'm 6 weeks pregnant with my second child, I have a beautiful 6 year old son Blake, and I'm hoping for a little girl to make my wonderful family complete (If its a boy I'll be just as thrilled!!) anyway, I've always loved the name Isobella for a girl which all of my family and friends have known for years. So, my brother and his partner had a little girl earlier this year and knowing how much I loved the name still called her Isobella. I didn't say anything about it because I know I couldn't claim a name for an imaginary child lol but if my child is a girl I would still really love to call her Isobella. I really have looked online at every other girls name but there is no other name I like as much. I know my brother will be really annoyed if I name my child the same, but he used the name knowing how much I loved it. Should i still choose that name??? Any advice would be really appreciated, thanks xXx

Mmn, I had my parents demanding I should not call my son John and I went ahead and did it anyway! My mum insited upon calling him Johnathon but gave up eventually. You could spell it differently and still have the same name or there are variations on the name in other languages. You seem to have the ability to not stoop as low as them. Can you be sure his partner didnt demand the name?

OTHER LANGUAGES: Zabel (Armenian), Elixabete (Basque), Elisabeth, Elisheba, Elizabeth (Biblical), Elisabet (Biblical Greek), Elisheba (Biblical Hebrew), Elisabeth (Biblical Latin), Elisaveta (Bulgarian), Elizabeta (Croatian), Alžběta, Izabela (Czech), Eliisabet, Liisa, Liisu (Estonian), Elisabet, Eliisa, Elisa, Elsa, Liisa, Liisi (Finnish), Élisabeth, Isabel, Isabelle, Babette, Élise, Lili, Lilian, Liliane, Lise, Lisette (French), Sabela (Galician), Eliso (Georgian), Elisavet (Greek), Elikapeka (Hawaiian), Elisheva (Hebrew), Erzsébet, Izabella, Bözsi, Erzsi, Liliána, Liza, Zsóka (Hungarian), Elísabet (Icelandic), Eilís, Eilish, Isibéal, Sibéal (Irish), Elžbieta, Elzė (Lithuanian), Elisaveta (Macedonian), Ealisaid (Manx), Ibb (Medieval English), Isabel (Medieval Occitan), Isabèl (Occitan), Elżbieta, Izabela, Izabella, Liliana (Polish), Isabel, Belinha, Elisa, Elisabete, Isabela, Liliana (Portuguese), Lílian (Portuguese (Brazilian)), Elizaveta, Yelizaveta (Russian), Ealasaid, Elspet, Elspeth, Iseabail, Ishbel, Isobel, Beileag, Lileas, Lilias, Lillias (Scottish), Jelisaveta (Serbian), Alžbeta (Slovak), Elizabeta (Slovene), Isabel, Ysabel, Elisa, Isa, Isabela, Liliana (Spanish)

I know you love that name but it would not be a good idea to name your baby that. There are many adorable names for girls! Keep searching. Even though its sad that your brother named his girl, Isobella. It is cute.

Be at peace, Name your child what you want. Your baby has to live with the name you choose. Lots of people have the same name.

I had the same problem. I always liked Jasmine but my sister in law beat me by having a baby first lol. Her daughter is 10mths and im 9mths pregnant. After looking for weeks I finally found a name that kind of sounded the same but wasnt. I settled for Jaslynn.

I think itd be weird if your cousin has your same name. Even if you liked it and he used it anyway. Why not try to find something close to it like I did? Elizabeth, Isabel ect. You have a long way to go still. Search the Internet, ask relatives for ideas or just simply wait to see what your babys gender id before jumping the gun.

You should go ahead and name your daughter whatever name you want. I am having a similar issue with my brother and sil. My husband and I are about to have our first child, and daughter, and the name we chose happens to be VERY close to the "only name" my sil has ever liked for a girl. She swears she told me "years ago", however, she only told me at a friend's wedding...and only after I told her what I would want to name our daughter. Regardless, I don't mind them naming their child whatever they want. As I explained to her, we both have different last names, and there are many families who have people with the same name. I mean, think of George Forman?!

If you feel like just going ahead and naming your daughter Isobella, maybe just explain to your brother how you feel and how much you love the name. As a brother, he should understand and treat you with only love and respect, annoyed or not.

You can name your child anything you want. Your brother has no right to be annoyed. It was inconsiderate of him to pick that name, knowing you liked it so much. So if he does get annoyed, that's his problem, not yours.

That is sad, but lovely that you love him like your own, I'm sure he's a very happy little boy. Jameson is a great boys name. Choosing a name us such a hard thing to do because you know your child will have to carry it for life, that's why I'm trying to avoid the 'in' names. I think if you go your whole pregnancy loving a particular name and dont get bored of it or go off it, there's a good chance you'll always love it xXx

Thank you. I went though a whole buch of boys names when i was prego w my son. In fact the entire pregnancy i was calling him Noah but when he was born his bio daddy suggested Jamesen and that was it i was in love. I didnt pick Neil he isnt biologicaly mine. He came as a package w my now hubby. He and i met when lil Neil was only nine months old his bio mom had some mental issues and lft shortly before we met. Kinda sad when i think about it. But its all for the best. I love him as much as the rest of the herd. ;)

Ha ha, my sister has 4 kids too, it's total chaos, but they're all lovely kids. Irelynn is such a pretty and unique name! All your children's names are unique without being wacky! xXx

Thank you :-) I have quite a few names I like for a boy... coby, Alfie, Harrison, Charlie, dexter. A boys name was so much easier!! How many children do you have? What are their names? (I won't steal them lol) xXx

Hi melinda, I could spell it slightly different, it would still be the same name though, I'm really annoyed that he chose the name I loved and he knew how much I loved it!! I think arabella is just as pretty if not more so, and its more rare than isobella, so if I do have a girl I think I will go with that, thanks for your response xXx

Thanks for your lovely responses mummies, Aimee I know how you feel, I was really angry and upset when my brother chose my name too!! I think if it is a little girl then Arabella is defo the name I will choose. I'm so glad you all like the name xXx

I LOVE Arabella! It is unique, but it is actually a very old name just like Isobella, but much more rare. I have an ancestor with the name Arabella and always thought it was beautiful--unique, but with sophistication!

Love Arabella!!! Its beautiful. The same thing happened to me. I had the conversation with my SIL (at the time) and told her what I would name my babies. Hailey Michele for a girl and Logan Anthony for a boy. They had a baby girl first and her name is Hayley and I was pissed and hurt. So I know the feeling :( When we had our daughter we actually named her Kayleigh.

Arabella is beautiful and unique but not so much so that when she's an adult, she'll wonder what you were smokin when you named her! ; )

Thank you for your responses although you have mainly told me what I already knew deep down! Lol. I do want my child to have a name that's unique to them and having 2 children with the same name in the family would definitely get confusing! I'm thinking of arabella now, which is similar but different, and a little more unique. What do you ladies think?? Thanks again for responding :-) xXx

I personaly would be quite upset if my sister would have named her child the name i was always planning on..and thats why i wouldnt use the name anymore. But its up to you..I know people that name there children the same but we chose a name that is not likely to hear everywhere. The first name we had in mind we found out it was one of the "in" names at that time so we decided not to use it.
