Should I pay my daughter to babysit?

My daughter is currently saving up for a car (she wants it to be an independent purchase of her own hard work) although she won't be able to drive for two years. She's been saving for about a year now but isn't old enough to actually work yet. She doesn't have an allowance and doesn't get any money-she doesn't go shopping or out with friends either.

She babysits her three younger brothers almost daily. As summer approaches, she will be babysitting her brothers for hours a day. Should I pay her? I know that she wants to be paid at some point for babysitting (she feels uncomfortable having a personal relationship was the parents of the kids she's babysitting, but that can't happen because I need to know the family).

Wow. you don't give an allowance, yet you expect your daughter to continue to babysit your other children without reimbursing her (as, may I point out you WOULD do, were the sitter not your daughter)???

Were I her, I'd not be willing to babysit until you start paying the going rate for a sitter. You cannot expect the girl to happily give up her entire summer and earning potential (she is, after all, almost old enough to drive, so a summer sitter is a perfect job for her...for OTHER families that would pay, that is) in order to 'save' you the price of a sitter for your other kids.

Pay the girl the going rate for a sitter.

Your daughter seems to have absolutely no life of her own, and seems like a good kid taking care of her brothers ALL the time. YES you should pay her. Come on now. No allowance, watches her brothers all the time, doesn't spend money frivolously...yes, give the kid some money for babysitting her youth away.

I actually did pay my daughter to babysit and do housework while I was at work during the breaks in summer. I had to split summer up with dad so when I had them she watched her brother, had him ready to go for VBS and did the house work. She ended up using said money for books for college.
