Should teens have sex?

I personally think it's normal for teens, specifically 13-17 year olds to be interested in sex. They are growing humans and they have a high sex drive. I lost my virginity at 15, and I do not regret it. I had my daughter who is now 18, when I was 16. Sex is nothing new, nor shameful. But I do think teens should be educated on sex at home, by a parent or an adult figure in their lives. Kids/teens are going to experiment with things whether their parents allow it or not. My daughter lost her virginity at 17, and I was proud that she protected herself. Parents seem to feel shocked or disappointed when their kids have sex, but it's not a bad thing. If you've done your job by teaching them, you have nothing to feel disappointed about.

I didn't say you wouldn't be accepting. But you can be accepting and disappointed at the same time. No-one said anything about expressing your disappointment to your child.

And as I said, do you REALLY think 13 is an okay age for a child to be having sex? Honestly?

Jodi, if my daughter got pregnant at 16 I'd be accepting and loving not push her away and treat her any differently.

Who raised your child that you fathered at 16? As in, REALLY raised her....financially.

13 or 14 is WAY too young to be having sex and babies. As I work with teens, I would honestly say that kids at this younger age (especially girls) are not actually having sex because THEY want to have sex, but generally there are other underlying reasons. So yes, kids this age DO have sex, but it isn't common and it is a symptom of other issues.

I honestly wonder if you would say the same things if it were your child walking in the door at 16 telling you she was pregnant.....
